XUE JIYE SCULPTURE
An artist with a clear love for the tactile, it is perhaps not surprising that Xue Jiye’s sculptures are so closely linked to his paintings. Not only is there almost always a textural aspect to his works – to the walls or to the sculptural figures – but in many cases, a particular painting or series of paintings relates directly to, or is an exact copy of a sculpture. Where the emphasis of the bronze sculpture is in it’s physicality – the tensions, pressure or weight shifts of a particular pose, the painting, with its lifelike colours and fleshiness explores subtly different dimensions of the same idea.
