LI XI
Li Xi was the winner of the 2005 Dragonair Emerging Chinese Artists Awards (DECAA I). A student of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, Li Xi developed this new style of ink painting in 2002. Li Xi’s aim is to give an impression of “clouds” or “water” by employing lines. “Each line,” says the artist “runs and revolves like a seed growing into a tree.” The artist does not seek to control the flow of lines, or bend them to a particular form, but allows the process of creating each piece to remain totally free and melifluent. “From weakness and tenderness,” says Li Xi, “to the cohesion of power, there are both concepts of Daoism and the impression of Sutra within my artwork.”
